High potential and gifted education (HPGE)
Our teachers are dedicated to recognising and nurturing the unique talents of every student. They use fair and proven methods to understand each child’s strengths and needs across all areas — including creativity, thinking skills, physical ability, and social-emotional growth.
We carefully identify students who show high potential or gifted abilities to make sure they receive personalised learning programs and support that suit their individual needs.
Our teachers believe every student can achieve great things, so they set high expectations and provide learning experiences that are tailored to help each child grow and succeed.
We work closely with families, our school community, and other experts, and our teachers regularly update their skills through professional learning. This teamwork helps us support and develop the talents of all our high potential and gifted students, ensuring every child has the chance to reach their full potential.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Bolwarra Public School, we believe every child has their own unique talents and strengths. Our approach to supporting students with high potential and gifted learning is part of everyday teaching. We focus on checking how students are going, using proven teaching methods, and tailoring lessons to fit each child’s needs.
Here are some of the ways we support all students in the classroom:
Different Learning Tasks through Explicit Teaching
We use clear and explicit teaching that provides students with activities suited to their learning level. These tasks challenge students appropriately and encourage them to take charge of their own learning by sharing their ideas and preferences.
Using Ongoing Check-ins to Understand Learning
Our teachers regularly use different tools to see how well students are understanding their work. This helps identify what each student is good at and where they might need extra help. The information collected helps plan lessons that support students’ ongoing progress.
Having High Expectations
Teachers clearly show they believe in all students by creating lessons that encourage deep thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. They provide the right support so every student can reach their potential.
Teacher Training and Learning
Our teachers take part in regular training to learn the best ways to teach students with high potential and to work together to share ideas and design lessons that help develop students’ talents.
EDGE Program
Our EDGE program offers students a variety of activities based on their interests, covering different areas of gifted and high potential learning.
At Bolwarra Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education forms an integral part of our every day work. We recognise and nurture the unique talents of every student by providing flexible, diverse and enriching opportunities and experiences that support growth across academic, creative, social and physical domains.
